Finally back from my trip to Tokyo with a crowning climb up Mt Fuji.
Coming back has been a little unsettling trying to settle into my practice once again. After many years of studying Yang style and combination forms, it was time to learn the proper styles. First taking on the competition forms, I had a chance to get a taste of Wu and Sun. Now, it is time for Chen. This is difficult, for it Chen being the original form seems the most flourished and alien from its off shoots. One could see clearly the differences in the other forms and derive one from the other. But to go right to Chen, is something that will have you relearning your Tai chi once again. It is definitely unique in it being the mother of the others. If one where to consider an element for the forms, one could ascertain Yang being strong and firm to be Earth, Wu hao compact and direct as Wood, Sun fast and light as Metal and Wu dynamic as Fire. Chen being the mother of the other forms fluid and containing as Water.
